In 2024, as part of our ongoing Bakori Vanarai Project, we proudly introduced the Chatrapathi Lake, a monumental step towards enhancing water conservation in Pune's low-rainfall regions. With a capacity to hold up to 1 crore (10 million) liters of water, Chatrapathi Lake stands as a testament to our commitment to sustainable water management and community support.

Why Chatrapathi Lake? Wagholi and Bakori are two areas in Pune known for their low rainfall and diminishing underground water levels. In these regions, where groundwater resources are critically low, Chatrapathi Lake serves as a vital reservoir that significantly contributes to replenishing the underground water table. By increasing the available groundwater by 100 crore (1 billion) liters annually, this lake plays a crucial role in ensuring a more stable and sustainable water supply for the community.

How We Spend Money:

Investing in Sustainable Water Solutions

The construction of Chatrapathi Lake has been a major financial undertaking, reflecting our dedication to effective water conservation. Here’s a detailed breakdown of the expenditure:

  1. Digging the Lake Area: ₹35 Lakhs

    • A significant portion of the funds, ₹35 lakhs, was allocated to the excavation and preparation of the lake area. This includes earthmoving, shaping, and stabilizing the lakebed to ensure its capacity and functionality.
  2. Pipelines for Irrigation: ₹3 Lakhs

    • ₹3 lakhs were invested in installing pipelines for irrigation. These pipelines are crucial for directing water from the lake to surrounding plants and agricultural areas, ensuring efficient water distribution and usage.
  3. Maintenance and Other Activities: ₹2 Lakhs

    • ₹2 lakhs were set aside for ongoing maintenance and other related activities. This includes regular inspections, repairs, and upkeep of the lake infrastructure to ensure its long-term effectiveness and sustainability.
  4. Pot Holes Digging:

    • In addition to the lake, funds were also allocated for digging pot holes within the Bakori Vanarai Project area. These pot holes are designed to capture and retain rainwater, further enhancing groundwater recharge.

Total Expenditure: ₹40 Lakhs (4 Million)

What is Our Goal:

Fostering Long-Term Water Sustainability

Our primary goal with the Chatrapathi Lake initiative is to create a lasting impact on the water resources of Pune's arid regions. By substantially increasing the underground water levels, we aim to:

  • Enhance Groundwater Recharge: Significantly boost the underground water reserves by 100 crore liters annually.
  • Support Local Communities: Provide a reliable water source that supports agricultural and daily water needs for local residents.
  • Promote Environmental Stewardship: Demonstrate a model of sustainable water management that can inspire and be replicated in other water-scarce regions.

Together, We Make a Difference The Chatrapathi Lake project represents our unwavering commitment to tackling water scarcity issues and improving the quality of life in our community. With continued support and engagement, we strive to achieve our vision of a more water-secure future.
